Thursday is the opening day of the prestigious race meeting, when our eagle-eyed style scouts will be out and about to find the day’s best-dressed male and female racegoers. Friday is Ladies’ Day, when you’ll have the chance to join us in the Style Enclosure in the Red Rum Garden and take to our catwalk in front of our panel of judges between 12.30pm and 2.30pm for the chance to be invited back as a finalist on John Smith’s Grand National Day .
Saturday is when our new style icon will be crowned, when five lucky finalists will be invited back to Aintree as VIP’s for John Smith’s Grand National Day. Liverpool Style ambassador, Coleen Rooney, will then announce the winner of Style 2009 sending Aintree’s Most Stylish Racegoer home with a fantastic lifestyle package worth over £35,000, including:

First and foremost, for a fabulous day at the races “Be comfortable!” That said go for glamour. It’s the year of the dress so make the most of it and don’t be afraid of colour. One of the most effective ways to look really well turned out at the races is to co-ordinate your headpiece with your bag and shoes. Follow my top style tips and you will not go wrong:
- Choosing the correct outfit is a big decision. To help this seasons key colours are reds with fuchsia pink, orange, chalky lime green, tropical blue mixed with eau de nil. Black and white is also a cert bet.
- Don’t be afraid of prints, animal prints, graphics or big florals are this spring’s rage.
- Above the knee length dresses are hot this season but don’t go too short - especially if it is windy.
- One shoulder dresses make a strong style statement but think about a detailed wrap or Pashmina for added warmth.
- If you are going all out with your outfit remember the old saying less is more and add softer accessories, choose one key standout piece and tone down other elements.
- Statement footwear is key with bold colours and fake snake skin the two must haves. Remember to wear your shoes a few times before the big day to soften them in and avoid race day blisters.
- Hats should be small and chic, think Jackie Onassis or Audrey Hepburn. Play with hair jewellery and accessories like fascinators but keep them simple.
- Make sure you have an oversized bag for the days essentials and if you’re lucky somewhere to put your winnings!
